Livestock Guardian Dogs
Colorado Mountain Dogs (CMDs) are a new breed of livestock guardian dog in development founded by Colorado resident and goat farmer Wendy Francisco. They are especially beneficial for small acreage farming, where protection from wildlife predators is needed, but less barking and less roaming is desirable, as well as a general affinity for people, meaning less wariness toward strangers visiting small farms.
To find out more about the Colorado Mountain Dog breed, as well as verify our dogs registration, please check out the Colorado Mountain Dog Registry (CMDR)

In addition to CMDs, we also have Livestock Guardian Dogs of different mixes that we breed because of their amazing aptitude for people, poultry, pigs, or other traits. Some of these dogs also become outcross (or unrelated new genetic) CMDs.

Our Dogs

Galen and Teonna
Galen is a G3 male and Teonna is a G3 female from Denali x Noctis
Birthdate - February 19, 2023
We are very excited about these 2 [u[s from our first litter by Denali And Noctis. Teonna tested and acts like service dog material and will hopefully be trained to relieve her grandmother Paisley as my own next service dog. Galen tests as and has all the makings of an amazing therapy dog. We are looking forward to seeing what these pups grow into.

Altaïr
CMD G2Â Stud - birthdate Dec 1, 2018
Altaïr is a grandson of CMD foundation sire, Caspian, and one of the most amazing dogs we've ever worked with. He will work wherever he is needed - with pigs, cattle, goats, and LOVES poultry.  He adores people, and is an awesome perimeter guardian - but currently is our best poultry guardian and lives with our chickens and turkeys, training the young pups with their mamas as they come through the poultry pasture.
Paisley
G1 Dam - 3/4 Maremma 1/4 Karakachan
(Registered CMD outcross) -
birthdate April 16, 2020
Paisley has been an amazing poultry and pig guardian, has guarded goats in her past, and has also been a free-run, close-to-home property guardian. Though she used to be a little shy with new people at first, she warmed up quickly - and especially loves small children. Paisley is one of the most graceful, calm, gentle dogs we have worked with. She is now a full-time service dog having finished her contribution to our breeding program. She had her first litter of pups fall of 2021 and last litter in spring 2023 and they are all amazing!

Denali
G2 CMD - birthdate Sept 15, 2021
Denali was retained from Paisley’s first litter by Altaïr and she is an amazing dog! Loving, SMART(!), beautiful, calm, great with both poultry & pigs, awesome puppy mom and nanny, as well as good with other dogs and all guests. She will likely be trained as a visiting therapy dog for the local hospitals. Denali is special - truly the best of both her parents - and her offspring just keep getting better.
Noctis
Potential CMD G2 outcross - great pyrenees/maremma x great pyrenees/akbash - birthdate September 28, 2021
Noctis comes to us from a farm breeder in southwest Oregon. He is a happy boy who greets people with a slight shyness and discernment, that usually quickly turns into love. He is our least dominant male so far, and moves easily between pastures and livestock and working dog groups. He has sired 3 litters so far and thrown some amazing colors
and temperaments.

Inoki
G2 female - 1/4 each: Sarplaninac, Anatolian Shepherd, Great Pyrenees, Maremma
(Registered CMD outcross) - birthdate May 1, 2021
Inoki is a sweet and loving girl who is a great pig guardian, loves other dogs, and is also a good puppy nanny. She loves all people and should train easily to most larger livestock. As a pup, she was excellent with poultry, but has become a bit too rough during adolescence, as many LGDs do. She is a gorgeous color - black over chocolate with white/cream patches and we can’t wait to see what her pups will look like. Inoki currently lives off-property under guardianship with Big Leap Ranch (www.bigleapranch.online), our breeding partner with Inoki. They say she is an incredible guardian against aerial predators and they
adore her.

In Memory of XENA
Our first 1/2 LGD with the amazingly innate service dog traits and the personality that made everyone love her

Currently Available Puppies & Dogs:
All of our available dogs and puppies come to you vaccinated and microchipped. Our breeding dogs (the parents of our puppies) are DNA health tested for more than 200 genetic health issues and diseases, and are hip and elbow x-rayed and certified free of dysplasia by our vet, if not OFA certified (depending on age). Our puppies are vet checked, given 2-3 rounds of DAPP vaccine (depending on age at homing), microchipped with registration signed over to you at pickup, and if suited, are registered with the Colorado Mountain Dog Registry. We also train our pups on leash before you pick them up, and expose them to our poultry, pigs and other dogs, as well as all our visitors, so they have a solid foundation in animal guarding as well as socialization. We don't release our puppies to their new homes until 12 weeks of age minimum, in order to give them the best start we can with their birth pack, provide training foundations, and to ensure that their personality will match their new home. If you are getting one of our special puos suited for Service Dog training, we will discuss with you at time of deposit how much time you would like them to spend here for basic training and socialization and we will help you find either a SD training program or trainer to continue their training when they come to you.
